My family are really enjoying lifecake and love posting comments on my photos. However my parents are divorced and don't like reading each others comments.
Could you introduce a privacy option so I could keep comments hidden from different family members, or only allow them to see my comments or their own and not each others?48 votes
Currently this feature is not planned however should there by any changes, we’ll notify you right away.
Have a great day,
The Lifecake team.
I would like to add multiple friends and family once rather than having to invite separately. Although I would like to add a personal message, it is a generic one to everyone I want to add.2 votes
Hi, Robert! Thanks for the great suggestion.
We currently have this in our iPhone/iPad/iPod app, but we will be adding it to our Website and Android apps soon. We’ll update this when it’s ready!
Hi, Lawrence! Thanks for the suggestion.
Do you see a username as better so you don’t have to give your email address?
The reason we didn’t introduce usernames originally was because we got feedback from customers that they didn’t want to have to remember yet another username (as well as a password) for a service. With an email, it’s much easier to remember.
So it would be good to understand your thoughts on how this would make things easier for people.
I use Animoto to pull together slideshows that have some pretty cool transition effects. These can then be packaged up and sent out or shared online as video files.
Could you do this as a new way of distributing photos alongside photobooks. You could still charge for the service as Animoto do.
Many thanks21 votes
Thanks, Vince! We like how you think :-)
We’ve been thinking a lot in this area and testing certain ideas. We’ll let you know when we have something.
Two questions we have:
Audio: Do you prefer your own narration or music on slideshows, generally?
Recipients: Do you have people you email content (of your child) to, that wouldn’t be on lifecake? Or would you share this within lifecake?
P.S. Just a little tip: if you shake your phone while lifecake is running, you’ll get a little slideshow of the moments we think you like best. Can’t send it yet, but that’s next.
I would love the option to downloaded my stuff from Dropbox1 vote
Hi! That was a bit presumptuous of us :-)
We will definitely look to add Dropbox as a source, in addition to youtube, flickr, Tumblr and some others in the future. So we’ll keep this open and let you know!
Its great that you can easily show the photos of a set or individual children, but wouldn't it make sense to have the parents and other family members or friends identified/filterable as well?
I suppose I could add them as 'another child', but they might not be so keen on having their age displayed as a constant reminder of the decrepitude (I am including myself here).
I suppose tags could be used, but I like the idea of seeing their little photo and selecting them.9 votes
Thanks, Adam! We actually made the dates go way back in time, so people could do exactly that: create lifecakes for older family members. (One of our team is actually creating a lifecake for his grandpa for his 90th birthday present this summer :-)
But we hadn’t thought about the birthdate being something people might not want to advertise, Good point! We will have a think about that at our team dinner on Monday and see what we can think of.
Keep the great ideas coming!
I use Lightroom for managing my photos, and it embeds IPTC captions in exported JPEGs. Many services like Google Plus and Flickr automatically pull from these captions; can you do the same with Lifecake?7 votes
If you are updating a bunch of memories from a single event (e.g. day at the beach), it would be nice if you could add a title and/or description for the whole group of photos, rather than having to title each photo. The title for the group could also be displayed on the timeline (perhaps with an on/off toggle) so you could quickly know where the photos were from.6 votes
Thanks a lot, Jed. We’ve discussed this quite a lot as a team before – some of us have wanted exactly this when we’ve been adding events to our kids’ lifecakes.
We are not sure when we might have this, but we will keep you updated when it might be coming.
Thanks for the suggestion!
If we add pictures that were taken less recently than other pictures in the Lifecake, they are sorted by date so are shuffled in with older pictures. I like having the pictures chronologically but this is harder for a viewer who wants to see the newly added pictures, which may not necessarily be those that were taken most recently. Is there a way to note which pictures were added last? Or highlight pictures that the viewer has not yet seen when they log in?7 votes
Our team was actually discussing this idea at dinner a few nights ago. We find this with our own lifecakes: we want to know when family have added older content.
Our plan was to put info about new uploads in the notifications area – where you currently see new comments or favorites – in the apps and Website. Will post an update here it’s coming!
Even after a child reaches their 6 months, please show the half-month markers.1 vote
We wanted to let you know that this is currently not planned.
Should you have any questions please let us know via email@example.com.
Have a great day,
The Lifecake team.
As you look at the Photoi in the timeline, it would be nice to be able to see the description/title as a caption under the image. This way you don't have to click on the image to see it. You should be able to turn this on and off for each photo.4 votes
Thanks very much for the suggestion. Do you imagine that they would always appear? Or they might appear when you put the mouse over an image in the timeline?
It's always a pain to ask people to create new user accounts. Any chance you can integrate these services for account creation/authorization?1 vote
You can currently choose to log in to Lifecake with your email address or your Facebook log in.
Have a great day,
The Lifecake team.
On the iPhone app, allow seamless, fast viewing of pictures through a traditional chronological slide show view - ie, no delay when you switch days (similar to the facebook mobile photo viewer)8 votes
Thanks for the suggestion!
We actually have a slideshow mode, but just to see your ten favourite photos. To see this, start lifecake and shake your iPhone (or iPad), and we will show what we think are your ten favourite photos. Shake it again, and see ten more.
But we’ll look into having a slideshow mode for the whole timeline!
If we already have videos on YouTube, would it be possible to add them to the lifecake just by embedding a link - this might be easier as videos can take a long time to upload, download, etc. We don't store all of our videos locally (some are posted directly from the phone to YouTube), which then makes them hard to get on to Lifecake.20 votes
Hi, Nick! This is a really interesting idea.
Our vision for lifecake is to be the oen single story of all the moments in our child’s life. One safe place where everything lives – whether the content was on the phone, your tablet, our computer or even on the Web.
Later this month we plan to enable importing directly from online sites like Flickr or Picasa or Facebook, so you don’t have to download from these sites and then upload again to lifecake. Youtube might also be one.
We plan to hold the content so that you have the comfort of knowing everything is safe in on one place, but we will also explore displaying content which might be held elsewhere. We will check into this and get back to you.
In Chrome, all you can see is 'lifecake | all your childre' - at least on the tabs on my screen (Win7 laptop) - maybe for tabbed browsers it could just say 'lifecake | <name of child>'?1 vote
Thanks, Nick, we will look into this!
It would be great to be able to publish sound recordings : my daughter singing, my baby drinking, ... With mobile phone, we have voice recorder app included, so...11 votes
Thanks a lot for the suggestion! As much of our team came from Skype, we have a special fondness for audio. And we are looking to do something quite unique with audio in the future.
But in the meantime we can look to support basic audio recordings, as they are indeed lovely and powerful.
For multiple photos per date, would be nice to have some option in positioning of photos, and the thumbnails shown. Especially in the case of 2 photos on a single date, there are a lot of foreheads only being displayed!82 votes
Hi, Bryony. We now use large thumbnails – and square – so you should see a lot fewer thumbnails. We’re seeing how people like this, and we may also do the positioning soon, too. Would love any feedback!
Right now once you drag the first picture or movie the draggable target disappears (replaced with status of current uploads). Please keep an area of the screen targetable so we can drag more pictures without having to close the window and open another one.4 votes
Thanks a lot, Pedro. We’re working on ways for you to do bulk uploads of content while still being able to add tags and descriptions to items in progress. We’ll keep you posted!
Hi, I see the date changing feature (though it's super tiny and easy to miss!) but I'd love to be able to change dates in bulk.
I hope you support multiple layouts / re-arranging pictures soon!
Great job so far, the website looks beautiful. My wife will love this!2 votes
Thanks very much, Pedro. In the next week we plan to make the date changing – and the tagging to a child – much more visible. You’re right: they are not clear.
As far as changing bulk dates of content, we will assess this. But lifecake should be putting everything in the correct date for you. Every time a file is uploaded with a date format we can’t find or don’t understand, our system adjusts itself to read the new format. Can you tell me where/how you took the photos or videos which are not going to the correct date?
Many thanks for the idea! Keep them coming, please :-)
